Visual arts: Exhibition at the National History Museum

9:01 pm arts entertainment

The latest visual arts exhibition at the Natural History Museum is Scott’s Last Expedition following the adventures of Captain Scott and his men when they explored the South Pole 100 years ago. The exhibition, which highlights their scientific achievements and celebrates their contributions to society, consists of specimens the men brought back in their ship to Europe and also provides a bit of the history of the journey as well. A fifth out of the 2,000 animals and plants that were brought back were considered a scientific break through at the time. The display was erected with the help of the Antarctic Heritage Trust and the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch, New Zealand as both organisations have loaned many of the specimens to the museum.
